Although Deák Square used to be the centre of our historic inner city, the modern town’s centre is Dísz Square, which is not only a beloved meeting point, but also one of the venues for major municipal events.
The iconic Tulip fountain standing in the middle of the square has become one of the symbols of Zalaegerszeg, similarly to the Maria Magdalena Church.

Sights
•    Lace houses
•    The Tulip fountain was constructed in 1985 for the 100th anniversary of the city becoming a ‘city with a council’. It was created by sculptor Péter Szabolcs and architect Gyula Pelényi.
•    The fountain is embraced by a row of coat of arms belonging to the sister cities of Zalaegerszeg.
•    The sculpture of Ferenc Farkas is located in the square’s south-western corner. The work of art called ‘The Nobleman of Zala’ is holding the map of the old Zala county in his hands.
•    In the north-western corner you can find the ‘Chess players’ by Péter Szabolcs, referring to the successful chess history of the city.
