Kossuth Square - Kossuth Square
Attractions, points of interest
The square is small, but rich in sights! Look around and find points of interests across Onion Helm Ispita and the Post Palace: the bust of Kossuth Lajos, the great stateman, next to it the building of the former savings-bank, on whose facade you can find old postcards from Zalaegerszeg.
Sights
• The Point House is Zalaegerszeg’s only building constructed in a modern style, which was built after WWII, but before social realism.
• The bust of Lajos Kossuth by János Béres is located in front of the Point House, right at the centre of the square.
• Several banks were open near Kossuth square in the first half of the 20th century. One of them still functions as a bank, which is a beautifully refurbished house at 2 Kossuth Lajos Street. The eclectic “palace” with its tower and round-arched edge was constructed by Zala County’s Central Savings Bank, although it has served various purposes throughout the years: it was home for a casino, a mall, offices and boardrooms.
